What is a visa?

Visa is an authorisation issued by the representative of the Government of a country permitting a person, not resident in that country, to enter its boundaries.

Who issues visas for Russia in Georgia?

In Georgia, the Russian Federation Interests Section at the Embassy of Switzerland in Tbilisi is the representative of the Russian Federation, who issue visas for Russia.

How do I know if I need a visa?

Georgian citizens need a visa to travel to Russia.

Is the visa valid for Russia only?

Russian visas are valid for Russia only.

Can the Russia visa application center prepare my application for me?

Russian visa application centers will be pleased to fill out an electronic visa application for you (additional service). But we don’t provide services of collecting and preparing of supporting documents.

How do I apply for a visa to Russia?

Step by step instruction

Step 1:

Be very clear on your purpose of visit - our Visa Center will help you through the entire visa application process but we are not permitted to advise or guide you on choosing a purpose of visit.

Step 2:

Please go to “Visa Category” to understand details of short stay visas and to obtain the information on the requirements.

Step 3:

Please check the requirements carefully and fill out an online application form which is available at https://visa.kdmid.ru/

Step 4:

Book an appointment on our website. Please make sure that there is enough time to process your visa application before the expected start date of your trip. See “Rates and terms” tab on the page of your visa category.

Step 5:

Print your visa application form out and come to apply in person to the Visa Application Center in Tbilisi. Please note that at the time of submission you need to have all the documents and visa fees specified for your nationality and type of visa you are applying for.

Or better use our Postal service (additional service).

Step 6:

Collect your passport at the Visa Center. You will need to present the original receipt given to you during the submission which will be collected from you as a proof of delivery of your passport. Please make sure you have a copy of it if you require it for your records.

Or better order a courier delivery of your passport.

Step 7:

Check the validity of the visa issued to ensure that it covers the period of stay requested, the number or entries required, and that it is valid for the purpose of trip immediately after collection of your passport.

What are the processing times?

Usual processing times are 4-20 working days for standard service or 3 working days for urgent service from the date of delivery of documents to the Russian Federation Interests Section. Kindly ensure all your documents are complete at the time of submission of your application in order to avoid any further delay or inconvenience. In some cases your passport can be retained by the Russian Federation Interests Section for 30 days for processing of visa application.

When can I apply for my visa?

Applicant can apply for a visa up to 6 months before your date of travel to the Russia.

Does the visa center have anything to do with the actual visa decision?

No. None of the staff in the visa application center have any authority or discretionary ability with regards to the visa decision. Our job is purely administrative in nature and we cannot influence or expedite any decision.

Can I confirm all my travel bookings before getting the visa?

No bookings or travel arrangements should be confirmed until a visa decision has been made unless it is a requirement for your visa application. TASS AS will not be responsible for any loss of expenses caused by delay/refusal of the visa.

Can I apply via post? Can I send my application directly to the Russian Federation Interests Section?

You can’t send your application to the Russian Federation Interests Section. But you still can apply via post to the Visa center. You can send your visa application, passport and supporting documents by post using our additional Postal Service.

Where can I get the correct specifications of photographs?

Please see Photo Specifications section of our website. If your photograph does not meet mentioned specification, you can take a photograph for a visa at our offices (additional service).

I have created an electronic form of visa application. How do I know if it has been saved?

Before completing your online application form you need to register on the website https://visa.kdmid.ru/ Please note down your user name and password generated by the system. By logging into your account next time you will be able to see all saved application forms that you have created.

How do I know which type of passport do I choose on the application form- Diplomatic, Official or Tourist

A diplomatic passport is issued to someone who travels internationally on official state business. Official passport (service passport, also special passport) is issued to government employees for work-related travel, and to accompanying dependents. A tourist or ordinary passport is a document, issued by a national government for the purpose of private international travel, which certifies the identity and nationality of its holder.

Can I edit the online application form once it is printed?

Yes. Please open this link https://visa.kdmid.ru/RetrievePage.aspx, enter your application ID and click on “Retrieve electronic visa application form”. On the next page enter all the required information. Please note that you will need to enter first 5 letters of your surname in CAPITAL letters. After you have entered all the required information please click on “Get a new draft ID” and then click “Next” on the following page. Kindly note that by selecting “Get a new draft ID” you will not delete the application form you have already created and it will be available for amendments/correction.

How do I retrieve the form if I have not completed it?

Can I use my digital signature on the application form?

No, you cannot use your digital signature for the application form. The application form needs to be signed using a pen.

Can I make a payment online?

If you use our Postal Service (additional service) you will receive an email with an invoice to be paid once your application is received by our visa center. When you come to submit your documents in person you will make a payment at visa center.

Do I have to have an appointment to submit my application?

We accept documents at the Russian Visa Center by appointments. If you were late or were unable to book an appointment in advance, you will be offered to submit documets in the Premium lounge or by Postal Service (additional services).

Where are the fees and checklists for the visa categories?

Under the heading “Visa Category”, a complete list of each visa category is provided. Within each category, once selected, you will see multiple tabs under the main heading providing details of Visa Fees, Documents Required, Processing Time, Photo Specifications. Please review these details carefully before completing your application.

If I have filled out aт application form for a minor – who has to sign the application?

Applications for minors (under the age of 16) must be signed for by the parent or guardian otherwise they cannot be accepted.

Do I need to submit originals of any documents when applying for a visa to Russia?

The applicant shall submit the following documents in originals: passport, printed and signed visa application form with photo. Other documents are provided in copies, except for the cases of the need to provide original documents for certain categories of visas. As a General rule, the submitted documents, except for the passport, will not be returned. In certain cases, the originals may be requested by the Russian Federation Interests Section after receiving the initial application.

How do I know on which days will the visa centres be closed

Russian visa centers are closed on Saturdays and Sundays and on non-working holidays in Georgia.

What do I need to do when visiting the visa center?

Upon reaching the visa center, you will be called for submission. While you wait to be called – please ensure that all required documents are ready. Incorrect documentation or photo will cause a delay in acceptance of your application.

What happens once I get to the visa center? How do things work?

Once you arrive at the visa center you will bу asked to introduce yourself. You would then be required to wait in the applicant area until your appointment time. At the counter, the officer will check your documents, process your application if it is completed accept the payment and issue you a receipt (invoice). Information about the approximate time of visa readiness will be given to you but we will not be able to provide you the exact date. We recommend you use our SMS service (additional service) to get information once your passport is received back with a decision.

What fees will I need to pay?

Every visa application needs to be paid by a visa fee for the amount applicable to your chosen visa category and a service fee of 30 USD inclusive of VAT (all fees are paid in lari at the rate set by the Russian Federation Interests Section). All fees should be paid at the time of submission by debit or credit card only.

When having completed the electronic application form – what do I need to do and record?

Please note your Application ID generated by the system and password. You may need these to access your electronic application form for reprinting or correction.

Do I need to come in person to submit or collect my papers?

You can submit and collect your documents in person, through a representative by a proxy (power of attorney) or via Postal Service (additional service).

Will I get my visa at the end of the process?

The Russian visa center will not be able to guarantee you a visa. The issuance or refusal of a visa is the sole prerogative of the respected diplomatic mission. The Russian visa center cannot influence this decision in any way.

If I have received visas in the past, do I have to submit a full set of documents when applying for a new visa for another trip?

Yes. All applications for Russian visa require all the supporting documents even if you are applying again.

If I have a Russian visa which is valid at the time I am submitting a new application – can I have 2 visas at the same time?

No. Please be aware, that in case you have recently been granted a Russian visa which is valid at the time you are submitting a new application, we will need you to provide us with the passport where the relevant visa is stamped as the Russian Federation Interests Section will need to cancel it.
